Retain7 for Hermes Agent
Shared memory for Hermes Agent
Whatever Hermes Agent knows stays with that install. A decision a teammate made in another tool is not in its context, and what you settle here never reaches their agents.
How it works
One memory, shared across your tools
Add Retain7 under mcp_servers in config.yaml with auth: oauth, and Hermes opens a browser to sign in when it first connects. Its MCP tools then read and write the same project memory as your other agents.
Saved in Cursor
Run migrations before seeding, never after.
Found in Hermes Agent
The next session searches before it answers, so the decision is already in its context.
An example memory, not customer data.
Setup
Add Retain7 to Hermes Agent
A minute or two, once. The same steps are in the docs.
-
Add this to ~/.hermes/config.yaml:
mcp_servers: retain7: url: "https://retain7.com/mcp" auth: oauth -
Restart Hermes, or run /reload-mcp in a session. On first connect it opens your browser to sign in. Check the connection with:
hermes mcp test retain7
-
So every session checks the team memory before it answers, add this line to your standing instructions for Hermes:
This team keeps its project memory in Retain7. Before answering how this project does something, call the retain7 memory_search tool.
Works with the rest
Your team does not have to use Hermes Agent
A project has one memory. Whatever the tool, the same decisions and failed attempts come back.

Questions about Hermes Agent
Where is Hermes configured for Retain7?
In ~/.hermes/config.yaml under mcp_servers. Run /reload-mcp in a session to pick up a change without restarting.
Can Hermes sign in on a headless server?
Yes. Hermes supports pasting the redirect URL, a device-code login and SSH port forwarding for the callback, and it caches the tokens under ~/.hermes/mcp-tokens.
How do I check that the connection works?
Run hermes mcp test retain7 to test the connection to the server.
Do my other agents see what Hermes saves?
Yes. Memories belong to the project, matched by its git remote, so Claude Code, Cursor or Codex find anything Hermes saved.
